“Peace I leave with you; my
peace I give to you.” In this case, peace is not simply the absence of conflict and battle.
It is the Hebrew concept of “Shalom”,
which means peace, well-being, health, and lots more. The “Peace of Christ”
that we wish and bless each other with during our worship is this same peace.
We can gift each other with this because Jesus has first given it to us.
Welcome!
Everyone is
invited to stay for fellowship after the service.
We pray today for all
the sick in our congregation, especially Else Kalmbach and her son, Bob McCrae,
Ed Stanat and John Weninger. May God
grant all of them His healing grace in Jesus Christ. Amen.
Offering
Envelopes – If you need more envelopes, there are some in the
Fellowship Hall. Everyone has unnumbered
envelopes, so please remember to put your name, date
and donation amount on the front of each envelope so you get credit for your donations.
PAR
– Pre-Authorized Remittance – Your
church needs you! Signing up for PAR
allows you to make donations on a monthly basis even if you’re not in
church. Application forms are available
on the table in the Fellowship Hall. All
you have to do is complete the form, attach a VOID cheque and put it in the
offering plate or in the church office.
Communion
Cards are required to be completed once per year per person. If you
have not completed one yet this year, please ask the usher for one.
Bible Study - Beginning on Wednesday, May 4 and going for 6 meetings until June 8,
St. John’s and Trinity Anglican will be hosting an adult study of “Jesus’ Life
and Times.” This will be an over-view of
the society Jesus lived in – Judea, Greece, and Rome. Our aim is to help people understand the
groups mentioned in the Gospels as well as the societal, cultural, and
political forces surrounding Jesus’ life and message. As usual, the meetings begin at noon and you
should bring a lunch. The first three
meetings (May 4, 11, & 18) will be held at St. John’s and the final three
at Trinity.
Ascension
Sunday – On Sunday, May 8, we will celebrate the Ascension (“Himmelfahrt”) with a service of Holy
Communion. The service is being
transferred from the previous Thursday.
Church Council Meeting
- Wednesday, May 25 @ 7:00 p.m.
70th Anniversary Service of the
formation of St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church – 1946 – 2016 - Sunday, June 12 @ 10:30 a.m.
