Today we celebrate the gathering of Christians into
what has become known as St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. This is not the actual anniversary date, but
it is a good day to celebrate nonetheless. We celebrate the grace-filled fact that we
are the Church and we are a part of the much larger reality of the Christian
Church throughout the world. We are a
part of the Church Universal and the Church in reformation. We take our identity, our grace, and our
comfort from Word and Sacrament. For all
this, ad Dei gloriam - To God be the glory!
Today we are using Setting #10 for Holy Communion on this
special festival.
Once again, we welcome Gertie Croft as our musician today. We also welcome Pr. Riitta Hepomaki, associate
of the Bishop, who joins us today as the Bishop’s and Synod’s representative.
Welcome!
Everyone is
invited to stay for fellowship after the service.
We pray today for all
the sick in our congregation, especially Else Kalmbach and her son, and John
Weninger. May God grant all of them His
healing grace in Jesus Christ. Amen.
Offering
Envelopes – If you need more envelopes, there are some in the
Fellowship Hall. Everyone has unnumbered
envelopes, so please remember to put your name, date
and donation amount on the front of each envelope so you get credit for your donations.
PAR
– Pre-Authorized Remittance – Your
church needs you! Signing up for PAR
allows you to make donations on a monthly basis even if you’re not in
church. Application forms are available
on the table in the Fellowship Hall. All
you have to do is complete the form, attach a VOID cheque and put it in the
offering plate or in the church office.
Communion
Cards are required to be completed once per year per person. If you
have not completed one yet this year, please ask the usher for one.
Bible Study – Until June 15, St. John’s and Trinity Anglican will be hosting an
adult study of “Jesus’ Life and Times.”
This will be an over-view of the society Jesus lived in – Judea, Greece,
and Rome. Our aim is to help people
understand the groups mentioned in the Gospels as well as the societal,
cultural, and political forces surrounding Jesus’ life and message. As usual, the meetings begin at noon and you
should bring a lunch. The remainder of
the meetings will be held at Trinity Anglican Church.
70th Anniversary Service of the
formation of St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church – 1946 – 2016 - Sunday, June 12 @ 10:30 a.m.
There is a Pot Luck
Lunch after the service. Sausage will be
provided as a main dish. Please bring a
side-dish, salad or dessert.
LCW Annual BBQ & Strawberry Social
Tuesday, June 21 @ 6:00 p.m. at Karen Moon’s. Please take a lawn chair. Everyone is welcome!

The 70th Anniversary of the founding of
St. John’ Evangelical Lutheran Church
PRAYER OF THE
DAY
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Let us pray.
O God, you have promised through your Son to
be with your Church forever. We give you thanks for those who founded this
community of believers and for the signs of your presence in our congregation.
Increase in us the spirit of faith and love, and make us worthy of our
heritage. Knit us together in the communion of saints, and make our fellowship
an example to all believers and to all nations. We pray through your Son, Jesus
Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and forever. Amen.
THE PRAYERS OF
THE CHURCH
Let us pray for the whole people of God in
Christ Jesus,
and for all people according to their needs.
For the universal Church, of which we are a
symbol,
We thank you, Lord.
For your presence where two or three are
gathered in your name,
We thank you, Lord.
For this place where we can be still and know
you are God,
We thank you, Lord.
For making us your children by adoption and
grace, and refreshing us day by day with the bread of life,
We thank you, Lord.
For the knowledge of your will and the grace
to perform it,
We thank you, Lord.
For the fulfilling of our desires and
petitions as you see best for us,
We thank you, Lord.
For the pardon of our sins, which restores us
to the company of your faithful people,
We thank you, Lord.
For the fellowship we share with our sisters
and brothers in the Eastern Synod and the entire Evangelical Lutheran Church in
Canada.
We
thank you , Lord.
For the crowning of our years with your
goodness,
We thank you, Lord.
For the faith of those who have gone before
us and for our encouragement by their perseverance,
We thank you, Lord.
For the fellowship of St. John, our patron,
and of all the saints,
We thank you, Lord.
Into your hands, O Lord, we commend all for
whom we pray, trusting in your mercy; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen
(These prayers are based on the
Prayers of the Church written for the 50th Anniversary celebration
of December 1, 1996.)

The colours of the Lutheran Church are embodied in the Gothic windows. The main glass is of cathedral amber and the
inserts hold the colors, one to each window: Black for mourning, green for Trinity, purple
for Easter and Pentecost, white for Advent, and red for special occasions of
the Church year. (This was taken from the bulletin for the 20th Anniversary
celebration.)
Our Church Home
(tune #693 – Come, Ye Thankful People, Come)
Words Composed by Betty Lou Ternyik
(This is included for the sake of memory. We will not
be singing this today.)
Serving God in many ways,
Teach us, who give him praise.
Joining us to Christ our King
Offerings of thanks we bring.
Happy are we every day,
Nurturing souls who pause to pray
Searching for the proper word
to glorify our Holy Lord.
Everyone who enters here
Values love of friends so near.
Always keeping close at heart
Needs of those who might depart
Giving comfort when we can.
Everlasting life, the plan,
Living through our earthly life
Inspiring those in times of strife, (Repeat
the melody of the previous lines.)
Causing us to take a look,
Altering the path we took
Learning how we must forgive
to show a better life to live.
Lessons in our Sunday School,
Uttering the Golden Rule,
Telling us to give and take,
Helping hands for other’s sake.
Extra care for those in need,
Raising hope by a kind deed.
Alleluias we shall sing.
Noticing the cheer we bring.
Congregations sit in pews,
Hearing words of God’s Good News.
Understanding brings results,
Reaching out to clear our faults.
Confirmation helps us find.
Heaven in our peaceful mind,
And our joyful thoughts prolong,
As we sing Our Church Home song.
