Jacob wrestled with someone (an angel? God? Some
random person?) at the ford of the river and neither was victorious. Jacob asked for a blessing and received a new
name, a sign of a new life. How often
have we wrestled with God and not given up? Such a tussle will change us, just as Jacob
became Israel.
We welcome Paul Bodkin as our minister of music again today
and look forward to enjoying his musical talents.

the sick in our congregation, especially Else Kalmbach and her son, Nancy
Mayberry, Frieda Neukamm, George Simonis, Ed Stanat and John Weninger. May God grant all of them His healing grace

Offering
Envelopes - Everyone has unnumbered envelopes, so please remember to put your name, date
and donation amount on the front of each envelope so you get credit for your donations. If you need more envelopes, there are some in
the Fellowship Hall.
PAR
– Pre-Authorized Remittance – Your
church needs you! Signing up for PAR
allows you to make donations on a monthly basis even if you’re not in
church. Application forms are available
on the table in the Fellowship Hall. All
you have to do is complete the form, attach a VOID cheque and put it in the
offering plate or in the church office.
Communion
Cards are required to be completed once per year per person. If you
have not completed one yet this year, please ask the usher for one.

Bible
Study - October 5 – November 2
St. John's and Trinity Anglican Churches will hold a Bible study for
six weeks beginning on October 5th and ending November 2nd. The title of the Study is "Unread
Mail" and will include a study of the smaller letters of Paul, James, and
Peter (and John, if there's time) in the New Testament. The study will begin at 12 noon each day at
St. John’s and participants are invited to bring a lunch. The place for each study will be announced
shortly.
Church Council
Meeting – Wednesday, October 19 @ 7:00 p.m.
Annual Oktoberfest BBQ --- Sunday, October 30 @ 5:00 p.m.
Tickets:
Adults: $10 Children 6-12: $5 Children
5 & under: free
Menu:
sausage, sauerkraut, warm potato salad, coleslaw, apple crisp.
(Volunteers are needed to help make the sauerkraut, warm
potato salad, coleslaw and apple crisp.

in the Fellowship Hall).
Buy
your tickets by October 24 (so we know how much food to buy) and plan to join

LCW
Meeting – Tuesday, November 1 @ 2:00 p.m.
LCW Fall Bazaar – Saturday, November 5 @ 1:00 –
3:00 p.m.
There will be cabbage
rolls, meat pies, fruit pies, baked goods, crafts, jewellery and attic treasures. Volunteers are needed for making cabbage
rolls, meat pies and fruit pies. Please
bring crafts and baked goods by 9:00 a.m.
If you have any jewellery
that you would like to donate, please leave it in the basket
in the Fellowship Hall.
All Saints Sunday is the
celebration of the day when those who have died in the past year are
commemorated as well as all the saints of the church. We will remember our members and loved ones
who are with the Lord in Word, song, candle, and church bell.
Fundraiser
Concert – Sunday, November 6 @ 3:00 p.m.
Please join us for a concert at the church to
raise funds for the Mildred Bodkin Scholarship for Music and Movement. The scholarship was started by Paul Bodkin
and is being administered by the Rotary Club of Aylmer. The concert will feature Paul Bodkin,
accompanist and the Bob Towers Singers. Tickets
are $10 each and are available for sale from Rosina Fick, Marg Guenther, Karin
Barrie (519-673-2137), The Flower Fountain, and Jeannette Kebbel. Our target is 100 tickets. Please come out to support this event and
bring your friends and neighbours.
German Service – Sunday, November 20 @ 2:00 p.m.
Bible Study – November 30 – December 21
St. John's and Trinity will hold another Adult Study for four weeks
beginning on November 30th and ending December 21st. The topic will be "The Symbols of
Advent" and will be a way to prepare for the celebration of Jesus' birth
in the celebration of Christmas. We'll
look at the Church's symbols and practices particular to the season of Advent,
such as colours, the Advent Wreath, the Christmas Tree, and the Nativity scene,
among others. As before, the study will
begin at 12 noon each day at Trinity and the participants are invited to bring
a lunch. Again, the exact place of each
gathering will be announced shortly.
LCW Christmas
Party – Tuesday, December 6 @ 2:00 p.m.
All
ladies are asked to bring a story / poem, etc. to share with everyone at the
party and a plate of baked goods, cheese & crackers, vegetables, etc. There will be a penny table which always has
lots of wonderful gifts to be won.
Donation items for the penny table are needed. Ladies are asked to bring a $10 gift for a
gift exchange.
