A Moment Aside --- 27 July 2021
Another gem from the Celtic Christian tradition.
Here the body is tied to
its function (eyes – looking, mouth - speaking, etc.) The blessing and presence
of God is invoked on both. If God is present in “my head” and in “my
understanding”, I am a whole person. It is the wholeness of each person that is
the intent of God and God’s creative energy and work.
Too often, Christians separate
the body and the spirit. The body and the material world is seen as evil while
the spirit and the so-called spiritual world is good. We forget the words of
God in the book of Genesis at the creation of all things:
God saw everything that he
had made,
and indeed, it was very
good.
(Genesis
1:31)
With the grace of God all
around us, it is possible to come back to being a whole person, the whole
person God created us to be, the whole person with God in and around every
part.
God be at mine end, and at
my departing.
