A Moment Aside for 12 January 2021

A Moment Aside --- 12 January 2021

I realize that no one has asked me this. I’ll say it anyway. There are very few rules about prayer and they’re more like guidelines anyway. Here are a few I’ve discovered over time. (You’ve probably heard all these, but humour me please.)

  • ·         Pray as you can and not as you can’t.
  • ·         How do we pray? Want to.
  • ·         “The fewer the words, the better the prayer.” – Martin Luther
  • ·         God hears all prayers and answers them. Remember, “No” can be an answer.
  • ·         Use your real words if you can.
  • ·         There are 150 Psalms in the Bible, more than enough to cover any human feeling. Use them and become familiar with them. If you can, make their words your own.
  • ·         “If the only prayer you said was thank you, that would be enough.” ― Meister Eckhart
  • ·         Prayer is raising the heart and mind to God. (From my childhood catechism; note that it says nothing about using words.)
  • ·         Read the words in the photo above this again. God is the object and heart of prayer.

Just about everything else that could be said about prayer is simply for inspiration.
