A Moment Aside --- 28 January 2021
Let’s face it: all of us fail and fall
short of the mark. This is literally the Biblical definition of sin, to fall
short. We may feel that our failures, our problems, our sensitivities have
ruined things forever.
That’s a lot of power to hand over to
temporary things or to passing things. Should we feel that our actions,
thoughts, attitudes, or words have forever separated us from Christ or thoroughly destroyed whatever relationship we have had with God, we are saying
that our sins are more powerful than God.
Are we sure we want to make that sort of
statement? I’m not willing to.
None of us are so powerful so as to
destroy God’s plans for the world God created. So far as God’s plan for the
lives of each of us, that consists of “salvation.” I don’t know whether or not
God has every day and every step planned for each of us. I think God desires
salvation for all of us and the road each of us travel to that destination
varies. Twists, turns, and false starts will be part of each one’s journey and
I think God accepts that. To go even further, God is willing to work with and
through our twists and turns and false starts.
In any event, we have the witness of
Paul’s letter to the Romans on this:
Who will separate us from the love of Christ?
Will hardship, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril,
or sword?
No, in all these things we are
more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that
neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things
to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all
creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our
Lord. (Romans 8: 35, 37-39)
So remember, thank God for such weakness…
If you
think you’ve blown God’s plan for your life, rest in this.
You, my
beautiful friend, are not that powerful.
