A Moment Aside --- 14 May 2021
Nature can teach us many lessons, not all of which are
horrible or costly. The cycle of the seasons can focus our attention on the
reality and the nature of change.
Change is hard; there are no two ways about it. However, not changing can be just as hard.
There are cases where not changing can be fatal. Diseased organs or body parts
must be treated and, in some cases, removed for the good of the whole body.
This is not the case with falling leaves. It’s what trees do…
except for the evergreen trees, of course. Trees lose their leaves in the
Autumn and they come back in the Spring. Trees stay tall without their leaves
unless something acts on them to change that. Come the Spring: new leaves and
new growth. Come the Autumn: unrivaled beauty as the leaves fall.
Yes, these two years have been tough and full of loss. So
maybe we’d best take a moment to learn a lesson from God’s creation, at least the
part that has not been directly affected by the virus. The Good News of God’s
love and salvation is written in the Scripture and reflected in the nature that
surrounds us.
“They still stand
tall and wait for better days to come.”
